Description
Carissa Phelps, is a 38 year old Mexican-American author, attorney, and advocate for sexually exploited runaway children and homeless youth. Carissa's organization, Runaway Girl, FPC, helps communities develop positive opportunities for runaways, former runaways, and survivors of trafficking. At the age of 12, Carissa ran away, and was kidnapped by a pimp and forced into prostitution. Through small miracles and the unexpected kindness of a teacher and a counselor, Carissa has graduated from UCLA with both a law degree and MBA. She now spends her time working to help homeless and at-risk youth discover a better way of life. Human Sex Trafficking, the fastest growing crime in the US, is happening in Lompoc CA and Carissa will share strategies we can use to combat the problem.
